Well, then, how about this? There's a sequel, Time Stands Still is when the CP actually (sort of) happens, and is every bit a hilarious and awkward and full of crossed wires and random Torchwood-style craziness as, despite themselves, Jack and Ianto figure out how to live with each other.

This beautiful story is about Jack dreaming of all the people he lost during Series 2 and 3 of Torchwood.

erin_giles' character voices are spot on and I could see all of this as I read it. The first time I read this fic I started crying about half-way through and by the time I got to the end I could barely see what I was reading.

This fic broke my heart, and breaks it again every time I re-read it, but it was bloody worth it.

Jack's humor, Ianto's understated care, it all shines through with perfect clarity.

Comment: You've all heard "the end is where we start from". What you may not have heard is another line from Little Gidding T.S. Eliot penned: "Every poem an epitaph". That is the line that came to me while reading this fic. For something so short, it packs a lot of punch. There's an awful lot of sorrow and grief; there's also acceptance, and grace. There's beauty. I could go on and on about how powerfully touching this fic is until my commentary was longer than it was, but essentially, the reason I found this so memorable is because it's a memorial. Not only to Ianto, but to everything we saw between him and Jack.

This fic is poignant, heartbreaking. You'll feel for Jack in this one.

Comment or Excerpt from fic: This is an amazing fic that takes place about a thousand or so years from the end of series 3. It's a pretty amazing exploration of the Jack/Ianto connection and, for being as short as it is, delves deeply into the mind of Jack Harkness when it comes to relationships and more specifically his relationship with Ianto. It will make you laugh, cry and all sorts of other things simultaneously.

This is an AU after Series Two ended, and there is a very strong sense of "the end is where we start from" throughout this fic- the sense that despite all of Torchwood's losses, they'll somehow be able to recover. There is a plot, but most of the action centers around Jack and Ianto, and I think you'll find it a very satisfying read.

Comment: Ianto is remarkable for many reasons, but one thing that has always stood out in the minds of many fans is how easily he was able to con his way into a position in Torchwood Three- as well as a position in Jack's life. He conned the con-man, and that takes skills. This fic is wonderful because it not only showcases those skills, but Jack's reactions to watching someone else succumb to them.

“This castle is quite lovely, though I imagine it would be extremely hard to heat in the winter, what with all of the concealed nooks and crannies,” she said.

You always eased the load.” Ianto’s eyes were hot and damp, but he didn’t look away as Jack’s voice dropped to a whisper. “And I needed you.”

Why I've recced it?
It's a post-CoE fic, sort of "fix-it fic", but not quite. You're going to laugh and cry reading this.
This is a very satisfying and believable story. The fandom needed this, after CoE. And it's written by

blue_fjords whose writing is always amazing.

A bit of self-examination reveals some pretty impressive bruising on his torso and what feels like a cut over his right cheekbone, but none of it triggers any memories. He can feel a few faint scars under his fingertips – one on his leg and another on his neck, just under his chin – but he can’t think of what could have caused them."

Why I've recced it? Because I just felt so good after reading it. It's just such a good look at how things could easily have played out in the 6+ months after Children of Earth
