Title: Ring-a-Ring o' Roses
Author[personal profile] azure_chaos
Genre: Apocalyptic, angst, non-canon compliant
Summary: Jack always thought that the biggest threat to Earth was external. That’s why he policed the rift and watched Britain’s borders for alien threats. Unfortunately, no one saw this one coming from the inside. With almost the entire population of the world seemingly wiped out Jack discovers a surprise survivor. But if the apocalypse itself was bad, Jack knows that it’s really just the beginning and he will do anything to protect those he cares about.
Status: Complete
Length: Six Chapters + prologue, epilogue
Warnings: Action, Allusion to D/s, minor character death (no major character death).
Comment or Experpt from fic: This fic goes completely AU, ignoring the events of Exit Wounds and Children of Earth, Tosh and Owen are present. Rhys and Andy are included as well.

Title: Go Away A Little Closer
Author: [personal profile] blackbird_song
Rating: NC-17
Genre: Domestic, Angst, Humor, Men *eyeroll*
Warnings: Don't drink and read. Your keyboard will thank you.
Summary: A hard day brings strife, understanding, and a proposition or two for the future.
Commentary: This is a story where Jack and Ianto get domestic. So domestic, they even buy a house together, and there is talk of marriage. It's also a story where Jack dresses up in Wolverine pyjamas, Blowfish are sort of annoying, and Jack fails at marriage proposals. Do you need to hear more?

Well, then, how about this? There's a sequel, Time Stands Still is when the CP actually (sort of) happens, and is every bit a hilarious and awkward and full of crossed wires and random Torchwood-style craziness as, despite themselves, Jack and Ianto figure out how to live with each other.

Title: All That We See
Author: [livejournal.com profile] erin_giles
Genre: Angst, Dream fic,
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Sometimes a dream is just a dream
Status: Oneshot
Length: ~2,600
Warnings: Jack/OFC, post COE, (
Comment or Excerpt from fic: In the interests of full disclosure, yes I did beta this fic but I would have reccomened this fic had I come across it any other way.

This beautiful story is about Jack dreaming of all the people he lost during Series 2 and 3 of Torchwood. [livejournal.com profile] erin_giles' character voices are spot on and I could see all of this as I read it. The first time I read this fic I started crying about half-way through and by the time I got to the end I could barely see what I was reading.

This fic broke my heart, and breaks it again every time I re-read it, but it was bloody worth it.

Warnings: It would be in your keyboard's best interests to not be eating or drinking while reading this fic.
Status: Complete
Length: ~1000 words
Summary: "To Do: (slang) 1. n. time management list for organisational purposes. 2. n. a commotion, fuss, or quarrel."
Commentary: Well, who doesn't want to watch Lois and Ianto interact? And by interact, of course, I mean manage the management of Torchwood... once they stop fighting over whose turf is where. Fluffy, cracky, and just generally feel-good, this fic is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.

Title: Heaven in Hell's Demesne
Author: [livejournal.com profile] crystalfic
Genre: Angst, hurt/comfort
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete
Length: ~800 words
Warnings: Torture, violence
Summary: Sometimes, all it takes to call you back from a nightmare is a familiar voice.
Commentary: Anyone who takes a good look at my recs can tell that I am a sucker for fics dealing with the YTNW. This is a short fic, and it deals with many the familiar tropes of the subgenre, but with such wonderful characterizations that I couldn't help but bookmark it. Jack's humor, Ianto's understated care, it all shines through with perfect clarity.

Title: Questions
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kinkerbelle13
Genre: Angst, relationship, romance, AU
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete
Length: ~2600
Warnings: Canon character death
Summary: Basically, Jack and Owen have a conversation.
Commentary: Don't let the summary fool you; this fic continues long after the conversation between Owen and Jack is over, both chronologically and narratively. It's starts with one question Owen asks, and it takes a while for Jack to find an answer to it. In the meantime, Torchwood marches on, the world nearly ends a few times, and through it all, Jack wonders.

Title: World Enough, and Time
Author: [livejournal.com profile] soraismus
Genre: angst, romance, mystery
Rating: PG
Length: ~2,400
Status: Complete
Warnings: Character death of the only sort of temporary kind.
Summary: A man gets so many chances.
Commentary: If you take a look at the tags, you'll notice that we at [community profile] janto_recshave this thing about giving Ianto more time. We make him immortal. We make him a timelord. We have him die of old age, or at least in his thirties. World Enough, and Time is a sweet little piece that plays with the idea of Ianto returning again and again. As [personal profile] taffimaisaid in the comments, "For a story that had Ianto die about fifteen times, this is really adorable."
Excerpt: Jack's died ten thousand times; he's only lived once. As far as he knows, as far as he's ever experienced, only one of those things makes him different from every other human.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] gilascave
Genre: Romance, family, angst, AU
Rating: PG-15
Length: 21,500 words
Status: Complete
Warning: MPreg
Comment: There's something about this fic that stuck with me. Maybe it was the underlying message at the end of the fic that Ianto and Jack were very similar people after all. Maybe it's the way Ianto pragmatically and stoically tries to regulate his emotions and behavior. Maybe it's the sneaky bit of implied Doctor/Master slash. Probably, it's the fact that this fic is just plain adorable. So, read and enjoy. This is comfort food fic at it's best.

Summary: "Don't move. Don't open your eyes." Written for the prompts: Gun-play, object insertion, D/s.
Status: Complete
Length: 1,949 words
Warnings: Gunplay, D/s, really, really kinky
Comment: This is shameless PWP, as much about fun and affection between the two men as it is about the level of trust playing with these kinks like this necessitates. On a more personal note, I've always liked the idea of Dom!Ianto, and who doesn't like Jack's gun?

Title: The Epitaph
Author: Otrame ([livejournal.com profile] otrame)
Genre: Angst
Rating: G
Summary: Many years in the future, Jack visits Ianto's grave.
Status: Complete
Length: 894 words
Warnings: Character Death (very past tense)
Comment: You've all heard "the end is where we start from". What you may not have heard is another line from Little Gidding T.S. Eliot penned: "Every poem an epitaph". That is the line that came to me while reading this fic. For something so short, it packs a lot of punch. There's an awful lot of sorrow and grief; there's also acceptance, and grace. There's beauty. I could go on and on about how powerfully touching this fic is until my commentary was longer than it was, but essentially, the reason I found this so memorable is because it's a memorial. Not only to Ianto, but to everything we saw between him and Jack.

Comment or Excerpt from fic: Jack gets naked in public. I know what you're thinking, but sex is not the case. It's gorgeously written, the imagery is superb and the feel of it is just... guh. Jack getting naked isn't what it's always been, it means so much more. It plays a great part on Jack and Ianto's relationship here.
This fic is poignant, heartbreaking. You'll feel for Jack in this one.

Title: Give Me Pain if That's What's Real
Author: [livejournal.com profile] baka_sensei
Genre: Angst, Fix!It fic
Rating: Up to NC-17
Summary: I know I should be working on Revelations. However, first I had to exorcise the demon of CoE, and man, what a bitch of a demon it was. Ambiguous-fix!it fic. Title and some inspiration taken from Next to Normal. Remember Head!Six from Battlestar Galactica? Yeah, it's kind of like that.
Status: Complete
Length: ~12,00 words, 2 parts
Warnings: Series 3 spoilers
Comment or Excerpt from fic: This is an amazing fic that takes place about a thousand or so years from the end of series 3. It's a pretty amazing exploration of the Jack/Ianto connection and, for being as short as it is, delves deeply into the mind of Jack Harkness when it comes to relationships and more specifically his relationship with Ianto. It will make you laugh, cry and all sorts of other things simultaneously.

Title: Hourglass
Author: Lazuli Kat
Genre: Drama, Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Death is not the only form of loss.
Status: Complete
Length: Very long
Warning: Mental illness, character death
Comment: What if John Hart were exactly the sort of man everyone thought he was when he first appeared? What if Grey somehow got free in the Hub? What if after being buried alive, Jack came back with something? And how, on top of recovering from Tosh and Owen's death's, would Gwen and Ianto cope?

This is an AU after Series Two ended, and there is a very strong sense of "the end is where we start from" throughout this fic- the sense that despite all of Torchwood's losses, they'll somehow be able to recover. There is a plot, but most of the action centers around Jack and Ianto, and I think you'll find it a very satisfying read.

Title: 25 Things Ianto Has Done and Is Capable of Doing Again
Author: [livejournal.com profile] strangecreatureand [livejournal.com profile] shinodabear
Genre: Character Study
Rating: PG-13
Summary: The authors like to joke about their wildly differing views on Mr Ianto Jones. But if they were to both write up lists of '25 Things Ianto Has Done and is Capable of Doing Again', they probably wouldn't be very different at all.
Status: Complete
Length: Two Parts, A and B
Warnings: All standard Torchwood ones
Comment: Ianto has- and likely always will be- the unique status of being a man with a mysterious past. Just as often as we have speculated about Jack's background, we have speculated about Ianto's- if not more so. These two pieces are a good way to illustrate why that is- because although we might argee on a few broader points, very little else is nailed down.

Title: Nortorious
Author: [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords
Genre: Action/Adventure, Suspense, Thriller
Rating: NC-17
Summary: An homage to Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious, 1940s melodrama/suspense. Ianto goes undercover. Jack reacts.
Status: Complete
Length: 12,000 words in two parts
Warnings: Ianto/OFC
Comment: Ianto is remarkable for many reasons, but one thing that has always stood out in the minds of many fans is how easily he was able to con his way into a position in Torchwood Three- as well as a position in Jack's life. He conned the con-man, and that takes skills. This fic is wonderful because it not only showcases those skills, but Jack's reactions to watching someone else succumb to them.
Excerpt from fic:
“This castle is quite lovely, though I imagine it would be extremely hard to heat in the winter, what with all of the concealed nooks and crannies,” she said.

How subtle, Jack’s voice sounded in his ear. “It is, at that. Still, we wouldn’t want our Castle any other way, I’m sure. Ianto Jones,” he proffered his hand. “I’m with the Welsh Tourism Board.”

She laughed a little tinkly laugh and took his hand. “Alexandra Sebastian. I dabble in antiques – restoration, procurement, that sort of thing.” Her hand was soft but her grip was hard.

Rating: PG-13
Summary: He lets the grey show in his hair now. Each decade it slowly creeps back from his temples, around his ears to salt the waves of deep brown.
Status: Complete
Length: Oneshot
Warnings: Coda, Children of Earth
Comment or Excerpt from fic: It is beautiful. That's all i'm saying because I don't want to give too much away. It helps, in a way and it fills in some plot holes.

"I don't want to be frozen like the others. I'd prefer to be cremated if possible."

Jack quickly sat up, pushing away from the other man, "Why's that?"

Ianto's eyes reflected the scant light in the room, "I don't want you living with ghosts. Ashes can't haunt you, Jack."

Title: The Haunting of Woman Wept
Author: [livejournal.com profile] holdingoff

Summary: Sequel to When Even The Ashes Have Faded Away. Woman Wept had been a beautiful planet. The single landmass suggested the image of a grieving woman, hence its name.
Status: Complete
Length: Oneshot
Warnings: Coda, Children of Earth
Comment or Excerpt from fic: I actually like this one better. I just love what Jack does in it. This part broke my heart to bits.

"I carve his words into the caves because they were private. No one enters the caves except me, so they are still private and they'll be here forever. Even after the universe is nothing more than darkness and ice, his words will still be there- only the ice."

: From Here to There and Back Again with You
Author[personal profile] blue_fjords
Genre: Post COE "fix-it fic", sort of.
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Takes place post-Children of Earth.
Status: One shot.
Length: approx 10,300
Warnings: Spoilers for CoE.
Comment or Excerpt from fic: Without giving too much away, I chose this bit.

"You accepted me without reservation but still had the guts to stand up to me when I was wrong.” He smiled humorlessly. “You had to do a lot of standing. But you, Ianto,” and he risked opening his eyes, “you always forgave me. You always eased the load.” Ianto’s eyes were hot and damp, but he didn’t look away as Jack’s voice dropped to a whisper. “And I needed you.”

Why I've recced it?
It's a post-CoE fic, sort of "fix-it fic", but not quite. You're going to laugh and cry reading this.
This is a very satisfying and believable story. The fandom needed this, after CoE. And it's written by [personal profile] blue_fjords  whose writing is always amazing.

Title: Following Orpheus
Author: capedcrusader92
Rating: PG 13
genre: Post COE fix-it fic
Summary: The end is where we start from.
Status: one shot
Length: approx 8,700
Warnings: Spoilers for Children of Earth
Comment or Excerpt from fic:

"He sits there for a moment, getting his breath back, and tries to figure out what is going on. He doesn’t know how he came to be here and he realises, with a frisson of panic, that he can’t remember his name.

He looks down at himself, hoping for clues, but there is nothing. A bit of self-examination reveals some pretty impressive bruising on his torso and what feels like a cut over his right cheekbone, but none of it triggers any memories. He can feel a few faint scars under his fingertips – one on his leg and another on his neck, just under his chin – but he can’t think of what could have caused them."

Why I've recced it? Because I just felt so good after reading it. It's just such a good look at how things could easily have played out in the 6+ months after Children of Earth
