We usually see Ianto taking care of Jack and Gwen post “Exit Wounds,” but this is just the opposite – Ianto on the brink and Gwen forcing Jack to acknowledge the fact that they need to hire more people before Ianto looses it.

“Jack, I need to talk to you.”

Jack looked up from his paperwork as Gwen strode determinedly into his office... Ute-oh. She looks to be gearing up for a long one...

“We need help. We need to start thinking about…replacements,” she said, hesitant but no more determined.

Jack froze at those words. Replacements? Owen and Tosh? They could never be replaced. Even though he's thought of it, it felt slightly like betrayal. “We’re handling things well, Gwen. For the time being, we’re set. We don’t need anyone,” he said but a whisper in the back of his head called him on his denial.

“Jack! Open your eyes!” she... dragged him to the window... pointing below. “Look. Down there.”

Jack closed his eyes at the sight briefly, then forced himself to do as Gwen suggested.

In his office Jack looked up wondering were both Ianto and his coffee were. Setting his pen down, he hit his comm. link and whined playfully, “Iiiiiaaaantoooo, Where are you? Where’s my coffee?”

There was no reply.

Jack called again this time sounding vaguely pathetic

“I’m a little preoccupied, Sir. I’ll be with you in a moment,” soothed Ianto the soft voice going someway to calm Jack down.

But Jack being Jack wasn’t satisfied. Leaning back in his chair he asked petulantly, “What’s more important than sharing a coffee with me?”… Pushing himself up and out of his chair, he wandered across to the door and pulled it open. He froze, staring in disbelief at the sight that greeted him.

Ianto didn’t answer. He didn’t dare trust his voice. He’d wanted this for so long, had wanted to feel something other than pure raw sex. Ianto knew he would never willingly admit that what he longed for was the softer things, the simple things such as cuddling and snuggling. He knew he’d never ask for it, not now and certainly not from Jack. He’d made that mistake once before... only to be laughed at... ridiculed for wanting such... things. So he stayed quiet, his body tense... He was standing still as if afraid that one movement would ruin the moment.

“Ianto,” breathed Jack, “Answer me. Is this what you really want from me?”

Ianto nodded, almost sadly as if expecting the spell to be broken.

To his surprise Jack smiled – a soft warm smile that lit up the older man’s eyes…

Ianto... threw back the covers and tumbled out of bed, making his way blindly to the shower. The hot water worked its magic to wake him, but did little to relieve the throbbing of his head. God, he didn’t remember getting pissed last night. Must have done though, to have a pounder like this... The pain in his head receded slightly when he managed to get a coffee... on his way to work... Still, when he cleared the tall, glass doors and stepped into the front lobby of his office building, Ianto shivered. Things were off somehow. Different. Wrong...

“Something is off... Like I’m supposed to be doing something, but I can’t quite remember what it is...” He shivered as the words left his lips... “Déjà vu...” Before he could say anything else, pain exploded in his head. Comment or Excerpt from fic: I was eagerly waiting for another fic from palmface and was delivered with this piece of brilliance! This is AU, as it states previously, with total disregard for TW S3 character speculation. Now that I think about it, I haven't read many post-EW fics that have TW3 recruiting OCs and not the usual characters (Mickey, Martha, maybe Tom)...

Anyway, the POV jumps every alternate chapter in the fic and so far, it's a very interesting fic with almost all genres - humor, action, romance, angst, etc. Exciting and enjoyable!

Ianto looked blankly... Tosh paused... to give him a look that was half reproachful and half disbelief. Gwen, however, wasn’t going to settle for a look. “Owen...
