Comment: This is incredibly beautiful, and so well written.

legibleflowers always writes beautifully and this is no exception. It's set in Pete's world, the AU from Dr Who, and features those characters, including a wonderfully drawn Rose, and AU Doctor. There is some mpreg in here, but even if you normally don't like it, give it a chance, as this story is set in an AU where sexuality and pregnancy are very different to ours, so it works perfectly in that context.

Comment or Excerpt from fic: A wonderful, wonderful fic that began as a ten page one-shot, and grew out of control, according to the author. It charts Jack and Ianto's relationship, and their reactions to events on the show, as well as adding a few interesting side adventures for them to have. It contains a few cliches, as the author warns, but they are built into the story, and form valid plot points rather than just being cliches. It is very well researched, contains the occasional reference, and has solid characterization throughout. AND it gets Myfanwy's gender right ... you'll see what I mean. There is so much I love about this fic.

longliveianto where I first found it, and I thought it should go here, as it gives us so much hope after the disaster that was the-series-that-shall-not-be-named. This is another fic that could be classed as canon if people wanted it to, in the words of the Doctor "Time can be rewritten."

Excerpt:

The man who shouldn’t be looked up through eyes that were nearly swollen shut at the man who wasn’t a man, smiled a smile that could only be described as ‘terrifying’ and shouted, “Doctor! What brings you here? No, wait let me guess. Um - Daleks? No, no we got all of those. Cybermen? No, the last of those died when we killed Y-Ianto’s girlfriend.” The Doctor could hear the slight stutter even through the slurring and wondered what had happened before Jack went on. “No, no, no! I’ve got it! The 456, are they back? Do you want to know how I did it? Or did someone tell you what I did and you’ve come to put me down?” The Doctor flinched.

At this last, the Doctor saw Jack’s eyes light up with a kind of horrifying hope. The Doctor realized that Jack was in worse shape than he thought if he believed for an instant that the Time Lord would actually kill him.

This is one awesome story, read this if you love stories where Ianto lives :D

Comment or Excerpt from fic: Very good AU that has nothing to do with Torchwood with a mortal Jack and Ianto in the second world war in a Royal Navy Submarine, you can imagine what happens lol. It's well written and has good pace, there's no rushing into things :). This is one of my favourite WW2 Jack/Ianto stories :D

Excerpt:

He shrugged on the coat that had been hanging over his arm - no-one would see it was an Air Force coat in the dark - and tugged the warm comforting material around him. Sadly this would have to go into storage at his lodging house with most of the rest of his things; he’d miss the coat, it was almost like it was a part of him. Taking one last glance at his new charge he turned and left the docks behind him. He rounded the corner of one of the cargo units, head bowed against the wind; and impacted with something warm and solid.

Glancing up, he was just in time to see a figure step round him with a clear “Sorry, Sir” before the figure was swallowed up by the darkness out towards the harbour. He’d barely seen the man, nothing really but shadow; yet still he was left with the lingering impression of blue grey eyes and a muttered ‘Like the coat’.

An eyebrow was raised and there was just the smallest quirk to the other’s lips. Very kissable lips, Jack was quick to note. “If by that you mean take you back to the House, sir, then I would agree. The car is this way.”

He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting: Ianto calling to say he was bored, Owen calling to demand food, or Tosh to say she'd finished her reports. Something bland. Something neutral.

Instead, Tosh's stressed voice flooded into his ear. "Jack? It's Ianto – something's happened to him, I don't know what. I think he's hurt."

That was all he had to hear before he was drawing his gun and heading for the door: rushing to the rescue.

Jack doesn't wake up, which is odd, because Jack doesn't sleep. Ianto's never seen him sleep, not in all the time he's worked for him. Jack says he doesn't need it and Ianto believes him. He always believes him.

otrameis someone whose fic stays over on Teaspoon, but is known there for writing some of the best romances. Part of the reason is her Jack is such a lover: he loves the Doctor, he loves Tosh, he loves Owen, he loves Gwen, and he loves Ianto, and each love is unique and not necessarily sexual. But, for the most part, her stories aren't fluff; they tend towards the dark side, and this particular one is no exception. Ianto is sick, dying, and no one is sure of the cause or the cure. This situation taxes Owen as a doctor, Jack as a lover, and Ianto as a person facing difficult choices to make- and there's more at stake here than his own life...

Told from Jack's perspective, this story is more than a bit on the dark side, and ends on a slightly uncomfortable note, with the feeling the however much they lean on each other, something could pull the rug out from under them at any moment.

I won't spoil you, but I have to say, for a fic written before CoE, it speaks to one of fandom's current big fears; the earlier chapters might be hard to read for this reason, but if you stick it out, you'll find it well worth the effort.

Commentary: Oh, alien viruses, how strange can you get? The short answer is "very". The long answer... takes over 9,000 words to accurate describe.

This story is largely about Ianto's struggle to deal with the effects of the virus, but through his befuddled eyes we also get the story of Jack dealing with a virus which inevitably ends in tears.
