Title: Even to the Edge
Author: [livejournal.com profile] zhian_tara
Genre: Um, slight angst I guess?
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A routine operation almost ends disastrously, Jack wants to know exactly why Ianto's been taking so many risks, and Ianto's icy self-control finally snaps.
Status: Complete
Comment or Excerpt: So I literally read this, opened up my LJ client, and had to insta-rec this. It's *brilliant*! The show would never be able to deal with this particular issue as well as zhian_tara did in so few words. Plus, who wasn't at least a little turned on when Ianto and Jack were shouting at each other in "Cyberwoman"?

Jack’s never sounded quite so enraged, as the five members of the Torchwood team wearily traipse back into the Hub after what should have been a fairly simple alien neutralization and retrieval. Instead, it had become a terrifying illustration of how very near a person (namely, Jack) could come to dismemberment, and how horrifyingly immediate Ianto’s mortality very nearly could have been if Jack hadn’t had that microgrenade in his coat.

And now they are home, mostly safe, and Jack is radiating fury from every line of his body as the rest of the team draws back, leaving Jack and Ianto standing facing each other like duelists. It’s a confrontation Jack’s seen coming for a long time, because Ianto’s taking more and more risks out in the field and Jack spends too many nights awake when the thought that maybe Ianto’s deliberately
trying to get himself killed ices his veins.

Title: Pavlov's Bell
Author: [livejournal.com profile] smirnoffmule
Genre:Slight Angst, Smut
Rating:NC-17
Summary: Training a pterodactyl isn't so easy for Ianto. Neither is caring for Lisa.
Status: Complete
Warnings: None
Comment or Excerpt from fic: This fic is set before Cyberwoman and sometime after Ianto joins, bringing Myfanway along with him. It's a look at Ianto's mind and what he will and won't focus on. It's an outsiders look at Jack and his seeming obliviousness. It's also a really hot, awkward first time. Sometimes those are the best.

Title: Hatful of Hollow
Author: [livejournal.com profile] invisible_lift
Genre: Slight Angst, Romance, Drama
Rating: PG thru NC-17
Status: Series, Complete, 13 parts
Summary: Starts post-Countryside and moves through the rest of Series 1 following how Jack and Ianto's relationship develops.
Comments/Excerpts from fic: This story is full of wonderful moments and sharp insight into how a relationship between Jack and Ianto could develop and how it grows despite both of their best efforts. The characterization of Jack and Ianto in this story are so spot on there are moments that you think you're reading canon. And there are moments where you ARE reading canon. This follows Series 1 so thoroughly from "Countryside" on so when you get deja vu about some dialogue, etc. it really is moments from the series. *g*

Title: Loose Ends, or Four Things Ianto Did after Cardiff was Saved
Author: Lisera
Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Ianto handles things. A letter, an understanding , a promise, a question.
Status: One shot, complete, 2680 words
Comments/Excerpts from fic: "Exit Wounds" has spawned so many fics about the first few days. And yes, this is another one.

Lisera winds a gentle tale told with descriptions and stuttered words, half-started sentences, and Ianto's steady presence as he walks through the first few days after "Exit Wounds". This Ianto grieves, it's not bottled up and hidden, but he still takes care of Gwen and Jack, helping them through the moments that unsettle them all.

Title: Long Weekend
Author: winterhill
Genre: Slight Angst, Fluff, Romance, Hurt/Comfort
Rating:PG-13
Other/Implied Pairings: Gwen/Rhys
Summary: Set several months after "Exit Wounds," Jack goes away for the weekend and Gwen and Ianto get a chance to bond.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 5 chapters, 22488 words
Comments and Exerpt from fic: [livejournal.com profile] guingel recced one of winterhill's other stories earlier (recced here) and that reminded me to rec this one.

This is a story that assumes a close friendship between Gwen, Ianto, and Jack post-"Exit Wounds", especially between Gwen and Ianto. Jack and Rhys both end up out of town at the same time and Gwen and Ianto decide to have a slumber party for a few days. Unfortunately nothing goes that smoothly when Torchwood is involved.

Jack is not really on-screen except for the very beginning of the 1st chapter, the 4th and 5th chapters, but the story is very much about Jack and Ianto and their relationship. Gwen acts as a deux ex machina for certain things, but for the most part it's just a story about Gwen wanting her two friends to be happy especially now that there are only 3 Torchwood members left.

Excerpt:

Ianto hugged her as she hung up the phone, resting against his shoulder.

“Rhys out of town for longer than he’d thought?” asked Ianto, ruffling Gwen’s hair.

“Yeah,” she replied, muffled by his suit jacket, and he kissed her temple.

“Need to spend some time at our place tonight?” he asked, and she nodded.

“If you don’t mind.”

“Of course I don’t mind,” replied Ianto. He knew how much Gwen hated it. Time to think on her own. He hated being alone too. Another piece of shit that Torchwood had contributed to their lives. “I don’t have Jack, either. We can have a sleepover, and eat popcorn and watch crap movies.”
