Title: Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics
Author:    [livejournal.com profile] alex51324
Genre: ANGST. Like whoa.
Rating: R-ish for language and themes
Summary: Obligatory post-Cyberwoman Janto.  My attempt to answer the question of "How did Ianto get from calling Jack a monster in "Cyberwoman" to suggesting sex games in "They Keep Killing Suzie"?"  Because what the fandom really needs is more of those.  Anyway, here's my take.
Status: Complete
Length: Two parts
Warnings: Dubious consent, drugging
Comment or Excerpt from fic: Here's a really interesting take on the post-Cyberwoman story. It's really well done and full of angsty goodness. Ianto is very sad, messed up, and in character, as is Jack. It's definitely a story you want to squirm at and ask questions of, because for some reason you don't want it to work that way, but it so DOES. :D

Title: Purple Oysters
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sorchar
Genre: PWP, Fluff, Angst
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Crackfic of the crackiest order. Srsly. It's "alien-sex-drug-makes-them-do-it" fic.
Status: Complete
Length: Oneshot
Warnings: LOTS O' MAN-ON-MAN. Explicit. Adult content. Whoaz.
Comment or Excerpt from fic: One of the obligatory "aliens-made-them-do-it" fics. It does get a little mushy and cliche and Ianto seems a bit needy and OOC (I'm more of a sarcastic/jaded!Ianto lover myself... so if you like your Ianto fluffy and emo, you won't have a problem), but the sex (multiple times) in this fic is blazingly hot and worth the read all by itself. Of course, an uninhibited, moaning Ianto is always good. Right? :D

We're gonna try a different one, because I fail at reading the masterlist and redundantly posted yesterday. I looked rlllll carefully this time and hopefully I don't fail. Again. ^_^;;

In honor of the snazzy new format and my self-appointed mission to start posting more recs, I wanted to give you my recently discovered new favorite. (Note to the admins- for some reason, when I attempted to get to the masterlist, the google.docs didn't want to let me in! Perhaps because I was logged into my personal gmail account? I dunno! So if this has been recced before, please let me know and I will happily get rid of the redundancy.)

Title: Mutual Service 'Verse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] phaetonschariot
Genre: AU, Angst, Romance
Rating: PG-13
Summary: When some misplaced technology triggers a custom-coded lockdown, Torchwood quickly realises the quickest way to open up the Hub again is to get the program's creator to shut it off. The only problem is that Ianto Jones is dead.
Status: Each story is complete, but the series is ongoing.
Length: 4 separate stories in 6 parts
Warnings: Death... emo-ness? Boy kissing and hints towards sexual themes.
Comment or Excerpt from fic:
This fic is absolutely BRILLIANT. It is very well written, and [livejournal.com profile] phaetonschariot packs an emotional punch without becoming melodramatic. The premise for this fic centers around the glove and a "what-if Ianto had actually acted on his suicidal/depressed feelings" and is incredibly well-done; not something I'd ever thought of before. Everyone is fabulously in character- Ianto is the sad, stoic Ianto we saw from series 1, underestimated and unappreciated but resilient, Jack is the guilt-riddled immortal who feels both responsible for and flabbergasted by the people under his command- and the writing style is simple but fraught with implicit emotion and illumination of the characters. Morbidly funny, it takes They Keep Killing Suzie and turns it into a story I would have liked just as much, if not more (which is saying something, since TKKS is definitely in my top 3 Torchwood episodes). I can't say enough good things about this series; it completely floored me, intrigued me, and left me begging for more!

As the author writes, the title is taken from the suicide note of Charlotte Perkins Gilman: "Human life consists in mutual service. No grief, pain, misfortune, or 'broken heart,' is excuse for cutting off one's life while any power of service remains. But when all usefulness is over, when one is assured of an unavoidable and imminent death, it is the simplest of human rights to choose a quick and easy death in place of a slow and horrible one."

So I've been writing again, and I love this community and it's ability to give me fics that inspire me, and it made me sad that there has been a dearth of recs for a while. So I decided to haul into the vault of my personal favorites, check the master-list and see if they haven't been recced yet, and then rec which ones haven't until I run out. Because I love you guys!

Title: Death #7402
Author: [livejournal.com profile] hatofhornigold
Genre: Humor with a bit of smut thrown in
Rating: R
Summary: Jack has died many times. Inevitably, some of his deaths must have been kind of embarrassing.
Status: Complete
Length: One-shot - 370 words
Warnings: Naughtiness and accidental violence
Comment or Excerpt from fic: I couldn't stop laughing when I read this the first time. No, really. If you've watched our dear Jack on Dr. Who, you couldn't help but notice his tendency to hide things in inappropriate places... and I won't ruin it for you, but this fic just plays on that in a hilarious manner. The dialogue is brilliant and it's so in-character it'll make you want to jump up and down and squeal. :D
