Summary: Jack always thought that the biggest threat to Earth was external. That’s why he policed the rift and watched Britain’s borders for alien threats. Unfortunately, no one saw this one coming from the inside. With almost the entire population of the world seemingly wiped out Jack discovers a surprise survivor. But if the apocalypse itself was bad, Jack knows that it’s really just the beginning and he will do anything to protect those he cares about.

The biological lock had kicked in before the first death had occurred in Cardiff. It was that which had initially alerted them to the threat to them. A few hours later it was announced that people in Cardiff had died of the strange new disease. The death toll had rapidly risen. They’d watched in horror and with growing feelings of uselessness as people dropped like flies in the streets. Cars colliding into each other and people on the pavements who had been desperately trying to get to loved ones or find a place to hide.
Tosh and Ianto had worked furiously to try and gain access to information in the hope that they could come up with something…anything. But when things had finally stopped and fallen silent out in the streets, when it had been obvious that the last man, woman or child had fallen, an eerie silence had descended on the hub. They’d all stopped and stared at the screens in horror.
