Ianto was humming softly as he went about fixing... a coffee... sliding into his seat, he mindlessly picked up a small package that had been sitting there... Ianto frowned as he looked down at the pack of cards before him. Tarot? Turning them over, he closely examined the pictures on the front... The images appeared to shift slightly, rearranging itself, settling into place... Each card was unique, unlike any Tarot deck he’d ever seen before. Pausing, he glanced over at the envelope. The... printing simply stated To Help You—no name... He didn’t remember actually picking this up... Shifting his gaze back to the cards, Ianto thought he saw something move again. There! The image... seemed to shimmer... Sucking in a short breath, Ianto realized it was the restaurant Jack and Gwen had gone to investigate.

anduria_trianys just hits a few of my kinks with this fic... *starry eyed* As much as I adore mythology of any kind, I've first been introduced to Greek and I'm a fanatic in that sense! Anyway, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the rift has been acting crazy and been sending Janto through space and time. As the summary states, their latest trip brings them to Ancient Greece in the 10th year of the Trojan War. Being in a time and place where one doesn't belong puts them in a precarious position as is, but knowing what will happen, will Jack and Ianto let events occur in their natural order or will they attempt to chance events, inadvertently changing history as they know it, consequences and paradoxes be damned?

He smiled as he recalled the little sojourn to Rome – the reign of Hadrian... Although, now he came to think about it... Ianto’s eyes widened in concern and he stared...

“... Last time I looked, Rome didn’t have a beach, so…where are we?”

Jack frowned. “We seem to be in the middle of the sea... but... then, I suppose the right question isn’t ‘Where are we?’ but ‘When are we?’ Because you’re right; this is not Rome – and those over there look to me like they could be Greek ships.”

... together they swam towards the shore... several tents and campfires came into view, all set up beside the ships. But what they saw as they came closer were several large wood pyres, some of them still smoking.

“My God!” exclaimed Jack. “Just – when are we?”

Jack felt exhausted - emotional women weren’t really his strong point but what made he feel even worse was the fact that Ianto had been so understanding. The way Ianto had been so reasonable about Jack disappearing so suddenly from his bed and then standing him up at both lunch and dinner. Jack sighed and leaning against the doorframe, stared into the bedroom... smiled slowly as he realised Ianto had very deliberately left Jack’s side of the bed clear... The fact Ianto was rolled so tightly in the cover and on the verge of falling off his side of the bed, showed to Jack far more than words could ever say.

When he recovers his senses, Ianto’s arms feel better around him than any have in quite some time. Sensitive fingers stroke his hair. He kisses his way up Ianto’s throat. Smiles down at his new lover.

Ianto kisses him, smiling too. And for a few brief, happy moments there’s no past and no future and no grief and no monsters, just the joy of being right here, right now, together.

It can’t last -- nothing ever does when you outlive everyone -- but Jack decides as he kisses Ianto again that he really doesn’t care. Eventually, the kid will leave and go find the kind of sane, settled life he deserves. Eventually, the Doctor will return and Jack will forgive him for leaving. Eventually, he’ll return to the stars and leave Torchwood in competent hands.

The way the author wrote Jack, I REALLY wanted to rip him a few more holes (as I said in the comments), but I had more important things I felt like doing, namely huggle and protect Ianto. Though, since the author promised more stupid!Jack, I'm sure I'll have many more chances to maim Jack and kill John. Surprisingly though, I hold Jack responsible. *tsktsk*
