Comment or Excerpt from fic: A wonderful, wonderful fic that began as a ten page one-shot, and grew out of control, according to the author. It charts Jack and Ianto's relationship, and their reactions to events on the show, as well as adding a few interesting side adventures for them to have. It contains a few cliches, as the author warns, but they are built into the story, and form valid plot points rather than just being cliches. It is very well researched, contains the occasional reference, and has solid characterization throughout. AND it gets Myfanwy's gender right ... you'll see what I mean. There is so much I love about this fic.

Comment or Excerpt from fic: Very good AU that has nothing to do with Torchwood with a mortal Jack and Ianto in the second world war in a Royal Navy Submarine, you can imagine what happens lol. It's well written and has good pace, there's no rushing into things :). This is one of my favourite WW2 Jack/Ianto stories :D

Excerpt:

He shrugged on the coat that had been hanging over his arm - no-one would see it was an Air Force coat in the dark - and tugged the warm comforting material around him. Sadly this would have to go into storage at his lodging house with most of the rest of his things; he’d miss the coat, it was almost like it was a part of him. Taking one last glance at his new charge he turned and left the docks behind him. He rounded the corner of one of the cargo units, head bowed against the wind; and impacted with something warm and solid.

Glancing up, he was just in time to see a figure step round him with a clear “Sorry, Sir” before the figure was swallowed up by the darkness out towards the harbour. He’d barely seen the man, nothing really but shadow; yet still he was left with the lingering impression of blue grey eyes and a muttered ‘Like the coat’.

He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting: Ianto calling to say he was bored, Owen calling to demand food, or Tosh to say she'd finished her reports. Something bland. Something neutral.

Instead, Tosh's stressed voice flooded into his ear. "Jack? It's Ianto – something's happened to him, I don't know what. I think he's hurt."

That was all he had to hear before he was drawing his gun and heading for the door: rushing to the rescue.

I won't spoil you, but I have to say, for a fic written before CoE, it speaks to one of fandom's current big fears; the earlier chapters might be hard to read for this reason, but if you stick it out, you'll find it well worth the effort.

Commentary: This is a story where Jack and Ianto get domestic. So domestic, they even buy a house together, and there is talk of marriage. It's also a story where Jack dresses up in Wolverine pyjamas, Blowfish are sort of annoying, and Jack fails at marriage proposals. Do you need to hear more?

Well, then, how about this? There's a sequel, Time Stands Still is when the CP actually (sort of) happens, and is every bit a hilarious and awkward and full of crossed wires and random Torchwood-style craziness as, despite themselves, Jack and Ianto figure out how to live with each other.

Comment: What if John Hart were exactly the sort of man everyone thought he was when he first appeared? What if Grey somehow got free in the Hub? What if after being buried alive, Jack came back with something? And how, on top of recovering from Tosh and Owen's death's, would Gwen and Ianto cope?

This is an AU after Series Two ended, and there is a very strong sense of "the end is where we start from" throughout this fic- the sense that despite all of Torchwood's losses, they'll somehow be able to recover. There is a plot, but most of the action centers around Jack and Ianto, and I think you'll find it a very satisfying read.

Comment: Ianto is remarkable for many reasons, but one thing that has always stood out in the minds of many fans is how easily he was able to con his way into a position in Torchwood Three- as well as a position in Jack's life. He conned the con-man, and that takes skills. This fic is wonderful because it not only showcases those skills, but Jack's reactions to watching someone else succumb to them.

“This castle is quite lovely, though I imagine it would be extremely hard to heat in the winter, what with all of the concealed nooks and crannies,” she said.

Comment or Excerpt from fic: retconned!Ianto. <3 I looked at the masterlist and saw that this hasn't been recced yet and wow, I can't believe it hasn't! This is one of the best TW stories I've ever read, it has everything. Action/Adventure, romance, retcon, an awesome plot and guh. Just guh. I love Jack and Ianto's relationship in this, I especially loved how the author wrote Jack. An Ianto who has lost 4 years of his life, he's so different from nornal Ianto! *_* And it's interesting how not a lot of things bother him. :D

"There's a Rift in the fabric of space and time that runs through Cardiff," Harkness said. "It spits things out. Sometimes it takes things. The things it brings us are alien, anachronistic. Comment or Excerpt from fic: This is an amazing story. The plot is a wonderfully twisty time-travel mystery, with aliens and paradoxes and cross-time clues. All the characters are really well-done, and especially Martha and Mickey get a chance to shine. The author does a really good job guiding the reader through the complex plot and has also created some truly spectacular original characters. It's also a marvelous Jack/Ianto story, showing their relationship as strong and trusting. One of the best all-around pieces of Torchwood fan fiction I've read.

Commentary: What if, indeed? This is an amazing, noir-esque story about a Ianto who manages to still be the loyal, stubborn, intelligent man we've all come to know and love, even as he steals from alt!Torchwood. His meeting with Jack (presumably not immortal and still a Time Agent) and subsequent moments are well-done and just plain fun to read.
Excerpt: “What,” Ianto snarls, teeth grinding, “The bloody fuck do you think you’re doing?”

And the man laughs. “I’m robbing you, of course. What does it look like? Nice move, by the way.”

American accent. Ianto stares, not letting his arm waver, disbelief warring with fury. “And what makes you think I’m going to let that happen?”

“You’ve got no choice?”

Ianto cocks his head and raises an eyebrow. The man’s arm isn’t wavering either, and he’s pointing an old-fashioned handgun, a Webley, Ianto thinks, of all things, right at Ianto’s forehead. It crosses his mind that an old-fashioned gun like that might be slower than his own, although, probably, unfortunately, not slow enough.

“No chance,” he says, and knows it to be true. He doesn’t want to die in such a pointless encounter, but he will, if he has to. The goods are important enough for that.

Inside the room was a man, huddled in a far corner of the room and watching them with wild eyes. He wore filthy sweatpants and a torn, dirty tee-shirt. His hair was long and shaggy — although, Ianto was curious to note that he had no beard or any other sign of facial hair — and there were manacles around his wrists and ankles, as well as what appeared to be a leather collar around his neck. Five separate chains kept him secured to the wall.

Ianto felt a rush of anger at the inhumanity of the sight before him. “Is this some sort of joke? Since when do we lock up humans?”

“This is no joke, Jones, and we don’t consider it to be human. Say hello to Torchwood’s longest surviving resident.”

The image... seemed to shimmer... Sucking in a short breath, Ianto realized it was the restaurant Jack and Gwen had gone to investigate.
