It was only a fortnight after that conversation that his tad was killed by a hit and run driver. Ianto thought it a bit odd that instead of staying around for the funeral his mam insisted that they pack all their essential belongings... and depart... that very afternoon. That evening found them... in a... single room in the B&B. Ianto had never seen her look so pale before... sparkle... gone out of her eyes... her body... stiff and unyielding...

When he woke up the next morning she was gone. Only one of the suitcases was left; the one with Ianto’s things in it. There was in addition, a small package wrapped in brown paper tied with string and a letter addressed to him in his mam’s handwriting. The rest of the room was as empty as his heart.

It's a marvelously written fic and very complex and so very exciting!

Comment or Excerpt from fic: Well, now this is a truly brilliant, BRILLIANT fic! It's one of the very few stories I read that has Ianto and Jack meet at Torchwood 1 before the whole Torchwood series. It's an AU fic that disregards the battle at Canary Wharf and the deaths of Jack's original team at Torchwood 3. The first meeting between our Jack and Ianto takes place when Jack is temporarily recruited to work on a highly specialized project called Project Hades with one Ianto Jones. The first meeting start with a BANG (literally) and sparks fly! This is such an addictive fic, one I want to read and read and wish the author would just post the whole damn story in it's entirety so I can keep reading!

... “Everyone can die.” He says simply, “But unlike everybody else I can do it more than once.”

She narrows her eyes... and inherently Jack knows he doesn’t like her. He trusts her, but he doesn’t like her...

Jack doesn’t understand what she means. Or perhaps he does, but his mind hasn’t come to terms with it yet...

“Jones,” she says sharply, “kill him.”

Neither a flicker of protest nor a murmur of question when the man, no, boy... moves, and for a fraction of a second as the gun is raised and the trigger squeezed, their eyes connect and Jack feels something. But there’s no time to figure out if it’s anger, fear or even betrayal before the bullet shatters his skull.

Okay, spoilers aside... TW team gets a phone call from the hospital stating that men are being hospitalized with the same symptoms and the Doctors can't seem to find-out what's going on. When Owen and Gwen go to investigate, they find that not only are all the hospitalized men in homosexual relationship, they are also pregnant with the fetus growing at an alarming rate. While TW team tries to find the reason behind this phenomenon, Jack realizes that Ianto has also been acting strangely - very energetic in the morning, but becoming very tired as the day progresses, extreme neatness (more anal than usual)... Is Ianto's condition related to the mysterious case of the pregnant men or is it something totally different?

It had finally occurred, Ianto thought, Jack and Gwen were finally together…they were a couple. It had taken probably the twentieth near death experience, (though Ianto wasn’t counting) for Jack to say I love you to Gwen and now they were together. Gwen struggled at first accepting it, but Ianto knew she couldn’t and wouldn’t fight it and a few weeks later she broke off her engagement with Rhys. Ianto wondered if he should give Rhys a call, they almost died together and now they had another thing in common.

Ianto wasn’t hurt, if anyone asked him that's what he would say, though he was disappointed. It was Gwen who told him, Jack was too much of a coward to do it himself and to some extent Ianto understood that…he understood Jack.

Luckily for them, they'd been able to video ID four... who'd set the devices. The fifth... managed to stay in CCTV blind spots... they'd been heading out to bring in the four for questioning. They'd all split up, and Ianto had accompanied Jack, getting briefed... during the drive since his headset... had gone dead and nobody had been able to contact him all morning... The man they were tracking had apparently gone to work as usual after rigging the device...

Mr. Parked seemed confused at a visit by Torchwood, but he didn't act like he had anything to hide. He also paid more attention to Ianto than Jack. Jack took an instant dislike to the man.
