~*~*~*~*~
Ianto lay on the ice-cold ground and wondered how long it would take him to freeze to death. High above him was the haematite sky, glittering with the Solstice blaze of stars and moon, beautiful and oh-so-deadly as the bitter cold leeched the warmth from his body and slowed his heart. He'd been still for so long now that the wild things all around him had become used to his presence and they rustled and pattered through the undergrowth. At first he had tried to move, but the pain from his leg had been so intense that his senses had swum and he had laid back before he passed out.
This was not how he had planned to spend the night. He'd asked Jack if he wanted to come around and when the Captain had agreed he had planned to throw together a simple dinner and then they would sit in front of the open fire and drink coffee while watching the box set of Hollywood musicals he had bought the other day. For some reason Jack was addicted to them and could generally sing along with every song. Ianto was mildly surprised over how quickly he had grown used to having love songs sung to him. It was a dirty job, but he was noble enough to suffer such a fate.
