EXCERPT:

Ianto paused, took a moment to survey the landscape, diamond white and sparkling. High in the Himalayas, learning each other, becoming a team, and all he could think about was what Jack would say when he finally came back, if he finally came back. Ianto closed his eyes, took a deep breath, the cold searing his lungs and igniting a fire in his belly, and let loose a wildly directed prayer to the things unknown in the universe. Let Jack be all right. Let him come home. Let us live; let Tosh wake and recover; let Gwen believe and lead; let Owen learn to breathe. And me. Let me have him back.

He breathed again and continued on, ready for a warm fire and a few hours sleep. At the end of the world, and all he could think to do was keep going.

Comment: This fic is brilliant. I couldn't stop reading until I'd finished it. I love post-"Countrycide" fics that speculate on the severity of Ianto's injuries and this is hands' down my favorite so far. It also has the added bonus of Ianto being an empath which leads to a very interesting situation between him and Jack. I don't want to say more or risk giving it away. Just go read it!!

Jack smiled as Ianto reached out to wrap himself closer into his body... still a long way from being awake. He placed a kiss on top of Ianto’s head and tightened the embrace ever so slightly, and... tighter again when the doubts crept back in, as they always did whenever he let himself feel content and, dare he think it, happy... Jack placed another kiss on Ianto’s forehead and breathed him in for a moment longer.

He knew moments like this couldn’t last forever. If they could last forever then they would never be moments and they would never be special. He knew that one day he would try to remember the smell that was Ianto, but he would no longer be able to recall it... For now though it was just one day... It was to be spent wrapped in each other’s arms, in Ianto’s bed, with only the gentle breeze blowing the curtains in the window to connect them to anything other than each other, and Jack was in love with that moment.
