Title: Brilliant Illusions
Author:
nessaja82
Genre: Romance, Drama, Angst
Rating: R-rated
Summary: Maybe there's more to life than waiting for a new dawn?
Status: Complete
Length: Oneshot
Warnings: None
Comment or Excerpt from fic: I really loved the Jack/Ianto interactions and how it all started to evolve towards love. I like it when Ianto becomes aware of how much Jack is hurting emotionally, just like anyone else and how he tries to make him feel better, even after all the baggage with Lisa.

His phone rings but he ignores it like he did all these times before. It keeps on ringing, but he doesn't even hear it. Neither does he hear his mobile, playing a soft tune nearly every minute. The knock on his door goes by unnoticed and only when there's a shadow in his kitchen does he realise that something is off.
Jack sits down next to him, hardly looking at him and Ianto wonders whether they'll ever be able to look each other in the eye. He betrayed Jack and he has a vague feeling that Jack doesn't respond too well to that sort of thing.
"I had to do it."
He nods, acknowledging the truth in Jack's words, but it doesn't stop the flow of tears that's running down his face and he buries his head in his arms.
"I know. I shouldn't have put you in that position, Jack."
There's many things he shouldn't have done, but had to do. Lisa, it was necessary. He owed it to her to try. The least he could do was to try and that he did, even though he'd never stop asking himself whether he tried hard enough.
"No, you shouldn't. You should have told me."
