Title: Once You Were The Real You
Author: [livejournal.com profile] riftactivity
Genre: Angst, Fluffy-ish towards the end.
Rating: PG
Summary: Jack keeps meeting Ianto but it's never really him.
Status: Complete, One-Shot
Warnings: Jack/OC's
Comment or Excerpt from fic: This was so sad and bitter-sweet but it was brilliant!

They'd taken him back to the military headquarter for debriefing and now he was in the recreation room, trying to forget the past week by drinking too much and looking for a warm body to give him comfort.

That's when he saw him the first time. He saw a pair of blue eyes, in the crowd and he felt one of the many boxes in his mind sling open and free it's memories.
The bad painful ones;
When have you ever asked me anything about my life?

EXCERPT:

Ianto... threw back the covers and tumbled out of bed, making his way blindly to the shower. The hot water worked its magic to wake him, but did little to relieve the throbbing of his head. God, he didn’t remember getting pissed last night. Must have done though, to have a pounder like this... The pain in his head receded slightly when he managed to get a coffee... on his way to work... Still, when he cleared the tall, glass doors and stepped into the front lobby of his office building, Ianto shivered. Things were off somehow. Different. Wrong...

“Something is off... Like I’m supposed to be doing something, but I can’t quite remember what it is...” He shivered as the words left his lips... “Déjà vu...” Before he could say anything else, pain exploded in his head. The scream left his mouth without thought, his hands pressing tight to his eyes, trying to force back the agony. Vaguely, he realized he’d fallen to the floor... Thankfully, unconsciousness claimed him after that.

Rating: PG
Other/Implied Pairings: N/A
Summary: Ianto considers Jack's decisions and comes to a decision of his own.

Comment or Excerpt from fic: Aah, any fic dealing with "Adrift" makes me bawl like a baby and this fic is no different. It's angsty, it's emotional, but Ianto's conviction and protective urges, especially towards Jack, always leaves me in awe and makes me squee and huggle him tightly!

EXCERPT:

Ianto knew... that was the choice they all faced; doing what was right, or what was easy... Jack had faced that same dilemma himself several times; in fact, he faced it every day...

“Where does it end?” he croaked...

“It never ends,” he said quietly. “... but we have to get through it... We just keep doing what we do... It never ends,” he murmured. “But it doesn’t have to be faced alone. There’s always something, or someone, there to help everyone through this – a loyal soldier...”

And that was what he would be to Jack; a loyal soldier. The turmoil that the older man faced would never end, but the loneliness he was feeling…

Ianto’s eyes hardened in determination as he whispered in Jack’s ear: “It ends tonight.”
