Comment or Excerpt from fic: This is a beautiful, beautiful story. There is, I'll admit, a lot of focus on Owen and Ianto's friendship, and Jack doesn't come back til the second part, but then it explores the effects of Jack leaving - and returning - on Ianto (and they're very in love and it's beautiful). It also explores the team dynamic in a really interesting way. Poor, sweet Ianto! It's a different take on the Jack!returning fic; it doesn't rely on the usual plot devices. Ianto is strong but recovering from physical trauma and the team takes care of him and it's incredibly sweet and a bit heartbreaking in the best way.

Excerpt: “What Owen is trying to say is that you treated all of us like shit running off with the Doctor like that,” added Gwen, her voice low and furious. “And if you don’t take Ianto and adore him, and make this up to him after all he’s been through, then I’ll rip your bloody arms off.”

Comments and Exerpt from fic: guingel recced one of winterhill's other stories earlier (recced here) and that reminded me to rec this one.

This is a story that assumes a close friendship between Gwen, Ianto, and Jack post-"Exit Wounds", especially between Gwen and Ianto. Jack and Rhys both end up out of town at the same time and Gwen and Ianto decide to have a slumber party for a few days. Unfortunately nothing goes that smoothly when Torchwood is involved.

Jack is not really on-screen except for the very beginning of the 1st chapter, the 4th and 5th chapters, but the story is very much about Jack and Ianto and their relationship. Gwen acts as a deux ex machina for certain things, but for the most part it's just a story about Gwen wanting her two friends to be happy especially now that there are only 3 Torchwood members left.

Ianto hugged her as she hung up the phone, resting against his shoulder.

“Rhys out of town for longer than he’d thought?” asked Ianto, ruffling Gwen’s hair.

“Yeah,” she replied, muffled by his suit jacket, and he kissed her temple.

“Need to spend some time at our place tonight?” he asked, and she nodded.

“If you don’t mind.”

“Of course I don’t mind,” replied Ianto. He knew how much Gwen hated it. Time to think on her own. He hated being alone too. Another piece of shit that Torchwood had contributed to their lives. “I don’t have Jack, either. We can have a sleepover, and eat popcorn and watch crap movies.”
