Comment or Excerpt from fic: This is one of the most gorgeously written Janto fic series I've ever read... AM reading (since it's a WIP at the moment)! Starting off pre-series, it's got mystery and it's so intriguing and it's roped me in hook, line, and sinker!! There's an underlying plot that has been introduced, but hasn't yet been expanded on (yet) and it looks bigger than anything we could imagine as of yet... *twitches in excitement* And the characterization is just... GUH!! For now, this fic accentuates the relationship between Jack and Ianto, and it's wonderfully crafted... I can hardly wait for the rest!! ^^

The stories are posted in chronological order and are written by Teach with Andi ([livejournal.com profile] andromeda05) foraying into this world every once in a while!

I stood there, horror written all over my face, blood splattered across my left side... My face was wet—and not with blood. When had I started crying, started sobbing? Reaching out I gripped Alex’s gun... I wanted to blame my boss, tell him he was foolish—but most of all—I wanted him back... My team was gone, my beautiful team, each so very different and coming together to be so very strong.

... I sank to the ground, weeping. It hurt so badly, why? The twenty-first century is when everything changed—Alex had said Torchwood wasn’t ready—what Torchwood? I’m the only one left.

Jack had heard of Ianto Jones, darling of Torchwood, inventor of the new “universal” filing system, and all-around wunderkind. He briefly wondered how Daffyd and Nerys Jones, old acquaintances of his from their days as one of UNIT’s crack investigative teams, could have produced a child with clear bureaucratic tendencies. From where he was sitting, Ianto Jones’s “universal” filing system made sharing information harder not easier – and had just cost twelve lives. He was about to bring the reality of battling the alien threat home to young Mr. Jones.

...

“Megan?” he quizzed. “Captain Jack Harkness, Torchwood Three, Cardiff. We spoke on the phone. Are Ms. Hartman and Mr. Jones waiting?” Jack spoke with the confidence of a man used to being obeyed.

Megan Dugan blinked rapidly,... “Uh Captain Harkness. Ms. Hartman is sorry she missed you, but she had an urgent meeting outside the building. She asked if you could reschedule?”

...

Giving the young PA his best, “I am charming and people love me grin,” Jack asked innocently “I really do need to get back to Cardiff. This is really just an archive issue. Maybe someone else could help me?”

Megan looked delighted at being able to provide assistance. “Oh, then you want Ianto! He is the Chief Archivist and I know he is around... Let me get him on the phone.”

...

“Captain Harkness? ” he heard a cultured, lilting Welsh voice behind him. Jack turned to find a young man, probably late 20s, impeccably dressed in a dark suit, extending his hand and smiling in greeting. “Jones. Ianto Jones, Chief Archivist, Torchwood One.”

Jack, always a connoisseur of fine looking men, let his eyes wander. Ianto Jones looked wonderful in a suit – and Jack spared a moment to wonder what he might look like out of it and to let the speculation show in his eyes – both a habit and a technique designed to unbalance a potential foe.

Extending his own hand and taking the other man’s in a firm grip, Jack replied, “Call me Jack.”

Rather than shrinking from the personality that was Jack Harkness or from the speculative gaze that bordered on a leer, Ianto Jones met force of personality with force of personality and let his eyes indicate his own appreciation of the raw appeal of the Jack Harkness show.

Word Count: ~6,504 / Interlude I
Warnings: Slight for Dr Who through Series 2

Ianto grinned, “We should really talk more about that 51st century psychological makeup. It might explain a great deal... for one thing... You are a complete flirt. It’s part of you. It does not bother me – maybe it should, but changing you is not what I want... This is likely a bad place for this, but . . . Jack, I don’t want you to conform to some 21st Century ideal for me... If the time comes... talk to me. That is all I ask.”

Jack realized the depth of the offer Ianto was making. He reached over and lifted his lover’s chin so their eyes met. “First, thank you... I know the effort it takes to even consider it. Know that I would never do so lightly... Finally... We are in an even partnership with this..."

Ianto was quiet for a minute. “You have changed so much to fit into this time and place. I feel like I can give a little of home back to you. It’s important to me to do this for you – for us. I never want you to feel like you’ve sacrificed something to be with me.”

Never,” Jack said, pulling his lover closer and kissing him soundly. “Never.”

Title: The Life You Save May Be Your Own

Warnings: Doctor Who through Series 2; some allusions to Torchwood s1 & s2

~*~*~*~*~

Ianto had not been able to make his weekly trips to Cardiff in about three weeks. Pressing Torchwood business had kept him close to London... between the recent incident at Torchwood, the wedding, and a family that looked to him to coordinate everything, Ianto was reaching his stress maximum. Jack provided both stress relief and a buffer. He had become as adept at telling Ianto “enough is enough” as Ianto was at telling him.

...

When he’d met Jack Harkness at Torchwood One a year ago, Ianto had not even dreamed he would fall so completely in love. Lust was almost instant, but rather than just pursue him sexually, Jack had actually courted him.

The last year had been the best of Ianto’s life.

...

Like all new couples, Jack and Ianto found themselves setting and redefining boundaries. It was a process, but it was working and life was good.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

"... There are some type of presences in the building. They come and go – they have been reported elsewhere as well. People are calling them Ghost Shifts...!”

Ianto felt his skin crawl like an echo of what he felt near the Rift in Cardiff. A Rift in time and space, Jack called it.

“It’s starting... Another Ghost Shift.”

Well, thought Ianto, this can’t be good.

When the battle came, no one was ready.
